Recall its the story of yester-month when the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) asked for public?s assistance in its fight to keep jailbreaking legal. EFF asked to leave comments on the Copyright Office?s comment board to add public support to the cause. The deadline for the board closure was February 10th, and at this stage Copyright Office has published everyone?s comments on the board. After a long time given for the comments only 700 comments submitted to the Copyright Office, but here are some big names apperaed at the curtain turning out to defend jailbreaking.

Saurik
Saurik Jay Freeman, is one of the big name came in front with his 6 pages commnets and evidences. As you know Saurik is the creator of Cydia. He provided opinions and evidence and support on why jailbreaking should remain legal.
Saurik comment
?In order to bypass these restrictions, some developers have taken it upon themselves to help users escape the ?jails? in which they feel manufacturers have them trapped. The resulting tools allow consumers of closed devices to install software from arbitrary parties and with no technical limitations. Depending on the device community, and the exact level of control granted, different terms are used for the process??bootloader unlock,? ?rooting,? ?jailbreaking?? though the overall result is the same.
This process is not easy, and comes with many caveats. Upgrading the vendor-supplied software on the device can become more difficult, specifically as the vendor often attempts to re-assert their control during the process??
Also pay your kind attention to Saurik?s comment #14 with all the responses for why jailbreaking or rooting must remain legal on the Copyright Office?s board.
The US government in 2010 declared jailbreaking as legal, but soon after the decision expiry later this year it must be renewed. And if the Copyright Office will not renew the exemption, the issue of legality of jailbreaking will become hot conversation focus once again.
